It is so promising that new options in functional medicine, lifestyle, and integrative care are evolving on Vancouver Island. I have had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Janice Wright, MD in the last few weeks, and am so impressed with her functional medicine background and her work to establish integrative medicine ideas in the part of BC. Below is a welcome letter from Janice , a bio, and a history of her journey in health care and functional medicine. Carrie ingrisano, MS, FNP
Dr. Wright has a virtual / on line functional medicine practice that includes hormone support, and is open to new patients.
I am an MD and a Family Physician. Over 20 years in practice, I have trained and honed my knowledge and skills in Functional (root cause) Medicine, Integrative (whole person) Medicine, Hormonal and Metabolic Health, Preventative Care, and Mindfulness. Our health and well-being are our greatest gifts and resources. I live, work, and play in this vibrant health myself – mind, body, emotions, and spirit – and I help others to rekindle and grow theirs. My style of patient care is collaborative, supportive, empowering, and evidence informed. I use all available modalities including prescriptions, vitamins, supplements, and lifestyle.
Dr. Wright's letter to Marigold Patients, with information about her bio, philosophies, hormone course, fees, and daily instagram health notes.
Dear Marigold Community, I hope that this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you at this time of transition , to offer you a soft and sturdy place to land after the closure of the Marigold Functional Medicine clinic. Carrie Ingrisano and I have been discussing our shared passion for a functional medicine and integrative approach to caring for patients.
Here is a little about my own medical education journey. I received my MD from McMaster University followed by two years of residency training in family medicine at the University of Toronto. I then moved west and opened a family practice in Vancouver. I practiced family medicine full time for 5 years, where, in addition to investigating, diagnosing, and treating in al the ways I learned in medical school, I practiced with reverence for nature, traditional wisdom, and wholistic views of the intelligence of the body-mind. I kow that while fixing and curing have important places in our lives ( as "medical" care), health, healing, and quality of life are foundational to how - and who - we are.
From a very young age, I have had a deep/abiding interest in personal development and human consciousness. I have been practicing yoga since I was a teen and certified as a yoga and mindfulness teacher over 20 years ago. As a family doctor, I became known for my gifts in counselling and coaching patients in stress reduction, enhancing self esteem, self-awareness, self-compassion, joy, ease and flow.
While in family practice, I became very interested in supporting people in their final state of life. I pursued a third year of residency training at UBC in the specialized field of palliative care. After 5 years of practice, I was invited to join a supportive cancer care centre, now called Inspire Health, where I spent the next 15 years as a physician and eventually the Chief Medical Officer and CEO. This work was fulfilling for me, and I continued to deepen my understanding and my support of health, hope, and healing. During these years, I studied and practiced functional and integrative healing. I am grateful to have apprenticed with some of the founding health care providers in these fields.
After 15 year, at my own midlife, I decided to learn all I could about midlife health, hormones, lifestyle and and proactive prevention. I am currently studying at the Institute of Functional Medicine and Worldlink Medical. I have a thriving on line practice investigating, supporting, resourcing , and treating troubling symptoms of the peri-to-post menopause and andropause for men. In addition, I am seeing patients in person at Aroga Lifestyle Medicine in Victoria.
